Vita Nova gives addicts a new craving for poetry
Vita Nova's Scratch Nights are a showcase for new writing and performance from members of the Vita Nova Writers' Groups.
Scratch Nights run quarterly, with the next event due in August. We also publish Verba Vitae to coincide with the performance evening
Vita Nova run regular creative writing workshops which have a profound effect on the lives of the addicts we work with through writing about their experiences, and re-gaining the self-esteem and confidence to perform these intimate pieces.
The Scratch nights are open to people in treatment, recovery and the public. We host an open mic slot for any local and emerging talent.
Being open for public viewing represents a real achievement for our writers and Vita Nova, giving them a chance to share with the wider community the compelling work coming out of our exciting arts organisation.
Our next event will be 29th and 30th August 2014 at The Workshop, Vita Nova.
"Vita Nova has given me the confidence I needed to begin to write and perform my work. It has created a safe environment where I felt able to explore and produce pieces without feeling judged by my past. I have overcome fears and reservations by attending workshops run by Vita Nova which facilitated by members of the organisation who share their knowledge to help further my development."
Feedback from previous Scratch Nights
"When I walked in the room I was not expecting to see what I saw – the tables and chairs and all the nice spread. Like a watered down Grammy Awards. The munchies were lovely and so were the Acts. Nice night."
"Very good night, great poetry, warm welcome, fantastic atmosphere, glad we came. Lovely singing as well"
"Very good evening, great to see my friends growing in confidence through performing. Thank you"
"Every hair on my body stood on end."
