What has Vita Nova done for me? Feryl
My journey to Vita Nova wasn’t easy, but I’m glad I made it.
My name is Feryl, I’m a singer/performer and I’ve been lucky enough to sing all over Europe. I performed for several years before I slipped into addiction which, after a loss of work and losing who I am as a creative, took me to a rehab centre in Bournemouth.
They championed Vita Nova as a safe haven for creative types in recovery, but I really didn’t know if I wanted to perform again. As part of my recovery structure I’ve found sober projects in Bournemouth to be really beneficial to help keep me sober and give me a sense of belonging.
I’d dabbled at writing music in sobriety but felt that doing it alone was quite daunting so I registered with Vita Nova in the hope that being around other creatives I might find some enjoyment from music and maybe even just tap a tambourine… within 20 minutes of meeting the staff there, having such a warm welcome and a great music leader in Jack Grace, I was singing like I’d never even had a hiatus!
Week after week I attend the music group, and most recently the acting sessions and I’ve found *myself* Day by day I get stronger and more confident in who I am as a person and as a performer. For that, I am truly grateful!
